In relation to the program
We will reflect the needs of the whole child. We will provide a play-based program that is developmentally and age appropriate and that develops the child͛s individual needs, strengths and interests.
In relation to families
We will facilitate opportunities for participation and involvement in program development and the mutual sharing of knowledge. We will develop positive relationships based on mutual trust and open communication.
In relation to colleagues
We will work together to maintain and improve standards, and respecting individuality, support and assist each other’s professional development.
Early Learning Frameworks
In 2009 the Victorian Government introduced the VEYLDF – Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. As a commitment of the Blueprint for Education and Early Childhood Development it has been designed to advance all children’s learning and development. At Surrey Hills Pre-School you will see staff working towards meeting the learning outcomes outlined in the framework with respect to each child͛s individual development. For more information on the VEYLDF you can go to www.education.vic.gov.au/earlylearning or www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/earlyyears
The National Quality Framework took affect on 1st January 2012 replacing existing state licensing and national quality assurance processes. ACECQA (Australian Children͛s Education and Care Quality Authority) aims to raise quality and drive continuous improvement and consistency in education and care services. Surrey Hills Preschool was assessed in March of 2018 and received meeting the requirements in all 7 areas of the National Quality Framework. Further information can be found at www.acecqa.gov.auAdditional Needs
The Pre-School welcomes children with additional needs and adopts a flexible approach to coincide with the child’s developmental needs. The staff work with the specialist agencies the child is involved with as well as the family, so a holistic approach can be taken.
Focus on the Family
The importance of the family and local community is reinforced in all programs and activities. Parents and children are encouraged to socialise and have fun through a wide range of events offered by our very active social committee.
We have events such as a disco night, trivia event, etc. Some of these events raise much needed funds for the kindergarten. Some are purely for social reasons. A family directory is given out early in the year to enable friendships to develop.
